WWE Payback 2016 Dates Brought Forward Not Dropped

Despite reports suggesting Payback had been dropped from WWE’s pay per view schedule altogether, PWInsider are reporting that the event has been brought forward.
Instead of taking place on May 22, it will now take place on May 1. A location has not been announced at this time, but with SmackDown being taped in Kansas on May 3rd, PWI suggest the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri is the most likely setting.
As part of the switch, Extreme Rules has been pushed back from late April to Payback’s original slot of May 22, and will take place in Newark, New Jersey.
Originally, it was reported that WWE had dropped Payback from their schedule and replaced it with Extreme Rules.
The reasoning behind this was unclear, but Ticketmaster were listing Payback as ‘WWE Extreme Rules,’ the arena’s website replaced the Payback logo with a standard WWE PPV logo, while the term “Payback” couldn’t be seen anywhere on the page.
At the time of writing, Payback is still listed as Extreme Rules on their website.
With WWE producing a press release regarding Payback tickets yesterday, it appears that the event has actually survived the chop, and that this change was made at the very last minute.
