Cody Rhodes was granted his WWE release on May 22, ending a decade-long tenure with the company.
In the two weeks since, the former Intercontinental Champion has made it clear that he's planning on conquering the worlds of independent and international wrestling - first by releasing a list of goals and dream opponents, then by signing to take on Kurt Angle in the main event of Northeast Wrestling's Wrestling Under the Stars V.
On Thursday, Rhodes made yet another move toward becoming a ubiquitous presence on the indies, teasing a debut in popular East Coast promotion EVOLVE Wrestling. Rhodes tweeted a picture of the company's logo, along with the date August 19:
August 19 marks the end of Rhodes's 90-day no-compete clause, meaning that it's the earliest he'd be able to start accepting bookings. It's also the date of an EVOLVE Wrestling show in Joppa, Maryland.
The top angle in EVOLVE currently pits frustrated former WWE workers Drew Galloway and Ethan Carter III (who currently headline for TNA) against EVOLVE loyalist/NXT star Johnny Gargano. Galloway and Carter have taken EVOLVE to task for the group's allegiance to WWE, claiming that it's ultimately bad for the independent wrestling they choose to support and defend. One would imagine that Rhodes would fit into such a feud seamlessly.
