Following his arrest early Friday morning for a domestic dispute with his fiance (Lauryn McBride), Jerry Lawler has been released from the Shelby County Jail in Memphis on bail.
Lawler gave his account of what happened to WMC Action News 5 in Memphis during a phone interview from the jail prior to his release. The full audio of Lawler's conversation with the news agency is posted online. Lawler's account of what happened varies quite a bit from what McBride told police officers and what is stated in the police affidavit.
According to Lawler, he returned to his home following a local wrestling appearance in Memphis on Thursday evening to find out that his fiance was at a friend's home watching the NBA Finals game. When his fiance (McBride) returned at 10:00 p.m., she was allegedly intoxicated.
The two got into a shoving match, according to Lawler, which has apparently happened before. She wanted to leave the home, but Lawler refused to let her due to the fact that he didn't want her to drive intoxicated. McBride went to call authorities, and when she tried to get to the phone, Lawler alleges that she scratched his face in the process.
Lawler told WMC Action news that when police arrived, they told both parties that they would both be arrested due to this being a domestic dispute. Lawler told the news agency, "Nobody was hit. Nobody was hurt. This is something that happened as a result of, you know, drinking too much."

Lawler denied the police affidavit which states he pushed his fiance up against the stove and hit her in the head. He did confirm that an unloaded gun was involved in the situation. Apparently at one point, McBride said she wanted to kill herself and threw the gun. McBride alleges that Lawler brought the gun out, placed it on a counter, and told her to kill herself. Lawler acknowledges bringing the gun out, but he denies using that language.
Lawler and his fiance are scheduled for an appearance in court at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Jerry remains suspended indefinitely from WWE based on the company's zero tolerance policy for domestic violence.
