32 FACTS ABOUT WRESTLEMANIA 32


  1. This will be the third WrestleMania to take place in the state of Texas, after WrestleMania’s X-Seven and XXV.
  2. The earliest date that WrestleMania has ever taken place was on March 14 for WrestleMania XX in 2004. Conversely, the latest date that WrestleMania has ever taken place was on April 7 for WrestleMania XXIX in 2013.
  3. The WWE Championship has changed hands 20 times at WrestleMania (including twice at WrestleMania IX). However, there have only been 8 title changes since 2001′s WrestleMania X-Seven. The most recent title change came last year at WrestleMania 31 when Seth Rollins cashed-in his Money In the Bank contract, defeating Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns in an impromptu Triple Threat Match to win the title. With this, Rollins became the first superstar to cash-in his MITB contract at WrestleMania. It also marked the third straight year that the WWE Championship has changed hands at WrestleMania, the first such stretch of consecutive title changes since the period between WrestleMania’s X-Seven-XIX.
  4. Only 5 WrestleMania’s have not ended with a WWE or World Heavyweight Championship match. WrestleMania I ended with Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff, WrestleMania VIII ended with Hulk Hogan facing Sid Justice (a.k.a. Sycho Sid), WrestleMania XI ended with Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, WrestleMania XXVI ended with The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels and WrestleMania XXVIII ended with The Rock vs. John Cena
  5. WrestleMania I is also the only WrestleMania not to feature a WWE/World Heavyweight Title match at all.
  6. Despite being the creator of WrestleMania, Vince McMahon has never won a match at WrestleMania, going 0-4 (though the bouts he did compete in were featured prominently on the card). Other superstars that hold this dubious distinction include: Bray Wyatt (0-2), The Bella Twins (0-4), Jeff Hardy (0-5), Montel Vontavious Porter (0-4), The Dudley Boyz (0-4), Don Muraco (0-3), Sycho Sid/Sid Justice (0-2), Fit Finlay (0-3), Umaga (0-2), Ryback (0-3), Big E (0-3), R-Truth (0-6), Wade Barrett (0-3), Titus O’Neil (0-2), Curtis Axel (0-2) and Goldust (0-7-1*) *Goldust’s match at WrestleMania X8 ended in a No Contest.
  7. WWE Hall of Famer Tito Santana won the first ever match in WrestleMania history when he defeated The Executioner (a.k.a. Buddy Rose) in the opening match of WrestleMania I
  8. Daniel Bryan and Bret Hart are the only superstars to appear in both the first and last match of the same WrestleMania, at WrestleMania XXX and WrestleMania X respectively.
  9. Last year’s WrestleMania marked the first time since 2007 that the United States Championship was defended on the main card at the event. In fact, WrestleMania 31 marked the first time that both the Intercontinental and United States Championships were defended -and changed hands- on the same WrestleMania card.
  10. The Rock (1999-2001, 2013), Bret Hart (1993 & 1996), Triple H (2004-2006, 2008), Yokozuna (1993 & 1994), Edge (2008-2010), Randy Orton (2009 & 2014), Kurt Angle (2003, 2004 & 2006), Shawn Michaels (1995, 1998, 2004 & 2007), Chris Jericho (2002 & 2012), John Cena (2008 & 2011), The Big Show (2000 & 2009) and Dave Batista (2007, 2010 & 2014) are the only superstars to lose more than one WWE/World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania, as either champion or challenger. Of these superstars, The Rock, Edge, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and Big Show are the only ones that never won a World Championship at a previous WrestleMania.
  11. 17 Superstars have competed in more than one match at a WrestleMania. These include: Bret Hart (WrestleMania X), Yokozuna (WrestleMania IX & X), Ted DiBiasie Sr. (WrestleMania IV), Randy Savage (WrestleMania IV), Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania IX), Greg Valentine (WrestleMania IV), Don Muraco (WrestleMania IV), Kane (WrestleMania XXIV), One Man Gang (WrestleMania IV), Cesaro (WrestleMania XXX and 31), Tyson Kidd (WrestleMania 31), Seth Rollins (WrestleMania 31), Los Matadores (WrestleMania 31), Big E (WrestleMania 31), Kofi Kingston (WrestleMania 31) and Daniel Bryan (WrestleMania XXX). Of these, Cesaro and Yokozuna are the only wrestlers to accomplish this feat at consecutive WrestleMania’s.
  12. WrestleMania IV was the only time in which there was not an advertised main event match going into the show. Instead, a tournament for the vacant WWE championship was advertised and the main event ended up being Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiasie Sr. Furthermore, WrestleMania IV featured a total of 16 matches, the most of any WrestleMania.
  13. In addition to WrestleMania IV, 11 other WrestleMania’s have featured 10 or more matches. WrestleMania’s V, VI & VII had 14 matches, WrestleMania’s 2, III and XX had 12 matches, WrestleMania’s X-Seven, X8 and 22 had 11 matches while WrestleMania’s XV and XXVI had 10 matches.
  14. To date, Chris Jericho is the last superstar to successfully retain the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania when he defeated William Regal at WrestleMania X-Seven. Since then, a new IC champion has been crowned at the last five WrestleMania’s the belt has been defended: Rob Van Dam in 2002, Rey Mysterio in 2009, The Big Show in 2012, The Miz in 2013 and Daniel Bryan in 2015.
  15. Last year’s WrestleMania marked the first time in which Kane wasn’t featured on the main card since WrestleMania XIX in 2003.
  16. Wade Barrett is the only superstar to lose the Intercontinental championship at more than one WrestleMania, losing the title at WrestleMania’s XXIX and 31, respectively.
  17. Daniel Bryan and Paul Orndorff are the only superstars to main event WrestleMania one year, then appear in the opening match of the following year’s WrestleMania.
  18. 9 of the last 10 WrestleMania venues have also hosted the NFL’s Super Bowl. These are: MetLife Stadium (WrestleMania XXIX, Super Bowl XLVIII), Levi’s Stadium (WrestleMania 31, Super Bowl 50) Ford Field (WrestleMania 23, Super Bowl XL), the Georgia Dome (WrestleMania XXVII; Super Bowl XXVIII & XXXIV),  NRG Stadium (WrestleMania XXV, Super Bowl XXXVIII), University of Phoenix Stadium (WrestleMania XXVI; Super Bowl XLII & XLIX), *Sun Life Stadium (WrestleMania XXVIII; Super Bowl XXIII, XXIX, XXXIII, XLI & XLIV), the Mercedes-Benz Superdome (WrestleMania 30; Super Bowl XII, XV, XX, XXIV, XXXI, XXXVI & XLVII) and this year’s venue, AT&T Stadium (WrestleMania 32, Super Bowl XLV). (*Known as Sun Life Stadium as of this writing)
  19. To date, Skydome (now Rogers Centre) is the only WrestleMania venue that has also hosted the World Series.
  20. William Regal is the only superstar to lose an Intercontinental Championship match in consecutive years. At WrestleMania X-Seven in 2001, Regal, as a challenger, lost to Chris Jericho at WrestleMania X-Seven and, as the champion, lost to Rob Van Dam at WrestleMania x8 the following year.
  21. Including special guests, referees and announcers, 14 people that took part in WrestleMania I are now deceased. These are: Gorilla Monsoon, Liberace, Andre The Giant, Big John Studd, Buddy Rose, S.D. Jones, Lou Albano, Joey Marella, Matt Borne, Billy Martin, Lord Alfred Hayes, The Fabulous Moolah, Freddie Blassie, Junkyard Dog and Roddy Piper.
  22. While The Undertaker has the most wins in WrestleMania history (22), Shawn Michaels owns the most losses in WrestleMania history with 11, followed by Triple H, Big Show and Kane with 10.
  23. The Undertaker/Mark Henry match at WrestleMania 22 marked the only time that a Casket match has ever taken place at a WrestleMania. It was also the only time that the Undertaker didn’t have to be pinned or made to submit by his opponent at a WrestleMania during the course of his undefeated streak.
  24. The Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle WWE Championship match at WrestleMania XIX marked the first time that two superstars using their real name were in the main event of a WrestleMania (h/t WrestlingFacts)
  25. The WWE Championship match between Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy at WrestleMania 2 marked the only time that a Steel Cage Match has ever taken place at a WrestleMania. In addition, there have been only 2 Hell In a Cell matches at WrestleMania, at WrestleMania XV and XXVIII, respectively. The Undertaker competed in both Cell matches and won them. This year’s WrestleMania will mark the third HIAC match to take place at the event.
  26. Daniel Bryan is the only superstar to compete for four different championships (World, Tag Team, WWE and Intercontinental) at four consecutive WrestleMania’s (XXVIII – 31).
  27. WrestleMania 2000 was the only WrestleMania not to feature a male singles match. Conversely, WrestleMania 21 was the only WrestleMania not to feature a Tag Team match.
  28. Shane McMahon’s last WrestleMania match was at WrestleMania X-Seven when he defeated his father – Vince – in a Street Fight.
  29. This will be Chris Jericho’s first WrestleMania appearance since WrestleMania XXIX. Likewise, this will be the first WrestleMania appearance for the Dudley Boyz since WrestleMania XX and the first for Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus since WrestleMania XXX
  30. The WWE Championship has changed hand six tames in the state of Texas, though it has never happened in the Dallas – Fort Worth/Arlington area.
  31. This will be The Undertaker’s 16th consecutive WrestleMania appearance since WrestleMania X-Seven in 2001.
  32. Every title holder coming out of WrestleMania 31 are all out with injuries and are not on the card for WrestleMania 32.
