Should WWE Create a Second Women’s title?

WWE is now entering the most exciting time its seen in years. The popularity of the “new era” has increased and the return of the brand split is brining world wide attention and speculation like never before. Fans want to know if the split is best for business and which flagship show talent land on.
However with all the mainstream attention, fans want to know how the split will be handled. Much talk has been focussed around the male division, but fans cannot forget about the female division.
Will WWE add a second title?
Charlotte is currently the Women’s Champion and she is doing a terrific job as being the divisions biggest bad guy. She can draw real hell heat from a crowd, she is an excellent athlete and she has the acolyte to back it up.
Most importantly she adds prestige and value to the title. The title is only as valuable as the person holding it, and Charlotte is arguable the best person to lead the Women’s division.
But what happens after the brand spit? Charlotte’s place at the top of the division should not change. But will a second women join Charlotte at the top?
It’s a discussion that has been circulating amongst fans, will the company split the titles up because Raw and Smackdown deserve there own championship?
If Charlotte is drafted exclusively to RAW, what happens to the women on Smackdown? Will they not have the opportunity to challenge Charlotte for the title? If so it devalues the championship and gives the champion less credibility as she is rarely defending her title against new competitors.
Charlotte will all of a sudden be versing the same females each week and it will run the risk of being repetitive each week.
Suddenly, all the work that has gone into getting Charlotte and the entire women’s division over has gone to waste. Charlotte’s character will become stale and repetitive, the once compelling women’s division will fall lower on the card and be subjected to poor booking and creative decisions.
A second title would mean that every wrestler in the women’s division will have a opportunity to compete for the prize.
But this cannot be the reason why a new belt is introduced. The woman’s title only recently saw its rebirth take place at Wrestlemania 32. There is no need to dim the spotlight on that historical moment less than two months later.
When the Divas Championship disappeared, so did the stigma that was attached to it. Gone were the days were the woman were seen as eye candy and as runway models.
The women of today are more than capable to handle the grind of professional wrestling. They are now drawing fans because of the credible division that has been built with highly skilled athletes.
A second title would dilute the division, weaken the other championship and could ultimately decrease the amount of fans who love what women’s wrestling has become.
Instead of creating a second women’s title, WWE should showcase there champion as being a traveling champion being on both RAW and Smackdown.
It would be ironic considering Charlotte’s legendary father Ric Flair was a traveling champion himself. He was the top title holder for the NWA and went from territory to territory defending the belt against all challengers.
This could work for Charlotte. WWE interest in pushing the women cannot be ignored and should deserve the same respect as the male competitors. Any attempt to recreate that with a second championship would run the risk of failing miserably.
